The New York Giants: Team History
The New York Giants would become a franchise in 1924. They would quickly become one of the leagues best teams finishing with records of 9-4, and 11-1 stated by the New York Giants. They would have continue to have success through the next decade playing in nine championship games and winning three. Through most of the 40s the Giants would have winning seasons and build of the leagues best fan bases. Like every team in the NFL the new York Giants would have a long downward slump. Through 1964-1978 the giants would only have 3 successful seasons.
The Giants would bring in Phil Simms, and Lawrence Taylor in the early eighties witch would propel them to their first playoff run in almost twenty years. In 1982 assistant coach Bill Parcells would step up to Head Coach after Head Coach Ray Perkins stepped down to return to coach the University of Alabama. In Parcells first season he would only finish 3-12-1 but in the next 3 years they would finish above .500 reported by sportsecyclopedia. In 1986 they finished with a 14-2 record. Parcells took the Giants to their fist Super Bowl in years. They would go on to be the Denver Broncos 39-20 in what proved to be Phil Simms coming. He finished completing almost 90 percent of his passes. New York would not have success until 1996. Despite the turnaround Head Coach Dan Reeves was replaced by Arizona Cardinals offensive genius Jim Fassel. The new coach would not add much improvement over the years. Fassel wanted to improve the offenses by bringing in a new quarterback. His first pick would be Kerry Collins. He then led the Giants to a Super Bowl in two years. Super Bowl XXXV would be a interesting match between the Baltimore Ravens and their high powered Defense and The Giants and their new found impressive offense. However each team would lack skills on the other side of the ball. Baltimore's mighty defense would prove to be too much for the Giants and they lost 34-7 from Giants history.
The Giants wouldn't reach the Super Bowl again until the 2007 season. They would play against the heavily favored, undefeated New England Patriots. The Patriots have were said to have an all-star roster that would include quarterback Tom Brady, receiver Randy Moss, and linebacker "Teddy." Controversial quarterback Eli Manning would prove to the football world that he was ready to lead by performing with incredible courage. New York won the 17-14 handing the Patriots their first lose of the season.
