New York Giants Injury Updates Includes Possible Concussion for Jason Pierre-Paul
Just when things were starting to look up for the New York Giants on an injury front with Justin Tuck nearly back to full strength, the team sustains another wave of injuries leading up to a serious challenge in New England this Sunday.
According to numerous sources, the following is the current breakdown of the Giants updated injuries:
Out:
OT – Stacey Andrews (back)
Doubtful:
WR – Hakeem Nicks (hamstring)
RB – Ahmad Bradshaw (foot)
C – David Baas (knee)
Questionable:
DE – Jason Pierre-Paul (possible concussion)
FB – Henry Hynoski (neck)
CB – Prince Amukamara (foot)
So at this point, it's possible that the Giants may take the field against the New England Patriots without their starting running back, first wide receiver, starting fullback, and (arguably) their best pass-rusher. It's becoming almost unbelievable for Giants fans to see these types of updates after such a horrific litany of injuries that started back in the pre-season. Having worked through them and overcome adversity, the Giants once again get slammed with a new set of injury hurdles.
However, it is important to note that Jason Pierre-Paul was complaining of headaches, but may not have a concussion. He is undergoing tests to determine if he is, indeed, concussed. If he is, he obviously will not play, but there is hope that he will make it.
Additionally, it looks as though first-round draft pick, Prince Amukamara, might see his first snaps on Sunday as he is traveling with the team to New England.
If "doubtful" indicates what it usually indicates, losing Nicks and Baas will be the biggest blows of that group. The patchwork offensive line has not worked as well this year as it did last year and Nicks is just too critical to not have on the field to draw safety coverage…even considering the Patriots weak defensive backs. It is also possible that wide receiver, Ramses Barden, may be activated off of the PUP list for this week.
Bradshaw is certainly a loss, but with Brandon Jacobs itching to get out on the field and get some touches, especially with a chip on his shoulder, the running game may not be a set-back as one might think. Further, Tom Coughlin has not ruled out Bradshaw completely, but noted that the running back would need to make significant improvements in order to play.
Giants 101 will stay on top of the injury news and report any updates, especially as they relate to Pierre-Paul and Bradshaw.
