NY Giants Long-snapper Zak DeOssie Added to Pro Bowl
Add one more New York Giants player to the 2011 NFC Pro Bowl roster.
The team has confirmed that Zak DeOssie has been added to the Pro Bowl roster. He will serve as the long snapper for the NFC roster on January 30. DeOssie joins teammates Chris Snee (starting guard), Justin Tuck and Antrel Rolle (both reserves) on the Pro Bowl team.
DeOssie was not surprised to be added to the Pro Bowl squad so close to the game. "Through my experience from the last time I went, I understand that this is the time where they choose the long snappers," DeOssie stated. "In the back of my mind, I had a one-in-16 chance at the worst. So, I figured maybe I could be getting a call, maybe not. I don't know how it works and who it's up to ultimately, but apparently somebody down in Atlanta saw something that they like and they extended an invitation to me, which I'm very fortunate about." DeOssie went on to say "I think I had my best year snapping. I felt more confident this year than I have in the past."
DeOssie is one of the most consistent and overlooked players on the Giants, and has been for several years. While Giants fans would prefer to see DeOssie and his teammates playing in a more meaningful January contest, being named to a Pro Bowl squad is an honor for any player. DeOssie was chosen by Atlanta coach Mike Smith to be the NFC's long snapper in the upcoming Pro Bowl. DeOssie's skills, not a popularity contest, landed the Giants special teams player in next Sunday's game.
