Carr glad to be back with Giants
David Carr is back in a familiar role with a familiar team.
Carr rejoined the Giants as a free agent in the offseason and will compete for the backup quarterback spot, a spot he held in 2008-09 before leaving New York and playing a year in San Francisco.
“... I’m glad that this was available because this is something I feel comfortable in and I think I could do well in,” Carr said.
Carr said he doesn’t necessarily expect to “fight” with incumbent Sage Rosenfels for the job.
“We’ve known each other,” Carr said. “I think we both realize that it’s not really about us going out here and fighting; it’s not a UFC match. We both want to move the football team and make the Giants better, and everybody wins when that happens.”
Carr went to the 49ers with aspirations of becoming the starter there, but it never worked out. Actually, it was never really in the cards to begin with.
“I kind of knew from the spring that it wasn’t going to be a situation where I was going to get to compete for anything,” Carr said. “That was kind of frustrating for me all the way back then. This was last spring. This was before the season. As far as how they were giving the reps out and what not. That was the tough part for me. I kind of wanted to come back to New York then.”
