Giants grab QB Rhett Bomar in fifth round
Rhett Bomar, the one-time Oklahoma quarterback who was forced to finish his career at Sam Houston State after being dismissed for NCAA violations, has been drafted by the New York Giants.
Bomar, taken in the fifth round on Sunday, threw 10 touchdowns in 12 games as a redshirt freshman in 2005. He was dismissed from Oklahoma in August 2006 for receiving compensation for a job he was not working.
Bomar enrolled at Sam Houston and played the past two seasons, throwing 37 touchdowns, including 27 this past season.
The Giants only kept two quarterbacks on the roster last season _ Eli Manning and David Carr. Rookie Andre Woodson was on their practice squad.
